A sporty city of science
here we go
Taking up a sport in the JenaVersum is easy, as long as you can make up your mind – it’s a case of being spoilt for choice here! The University sports association alone offers more than 25 different sports via over 100 courses: from traditional sports like badminton, football, dance and judo to new trends like Jugger or more exotic options like the contact sport quidditch – which is based on the idea from the ‘Harry Potter’ books. Added to this, there are several associations and private clubs that augment the wide variety of sports on offer in Jena. FC Carl Zeiss Jena is a well-known example, of course, and holds a special place in the hearts of athletes and sports fans in Jena. Basketball, too, is not just a popular sport with the fans – the Medipolis SC Jena club is also strongly engaged in promoting the next generation of talent.
Of course, you can still exercise in the JenaVersum even without an association. Whether it’s jogging around the Paradiespark, cycling along the Saale river or climbing one of the sweat-inducing ascents of the surrounding mountains. There’s a sport here to suit everyone.
