University of Applied Sciences

Practice-oriented with a strong research profile. Interdisciplinary and modern. Informal and cosmopolitan.

Founded in 1991, the Jena University of Applied Sciences lives up to its name: most of its research is practice-oriented. In line with its motto, ‘Innovation for Quality of Life – Health, Precision, Sustainability and Networking’ the University of Applied Sciences also endeavours to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in its teaching and research. To this end, it has over 40 laboratories at its disposal, all equipped with the latest technology. A range of degree courses in technology, economics, social affairs and health appeal to many young people from all over Germany and elsewhere in the world, and encourage them to come and study in this student paradise situated on the Saale river. The University of Applied Sciences maintains a fantastic staff-student ratio on account of the small size of its teaching groups. Each year, around 60 research projects are carried out at the University. These projects benefit from the excellent national and international network that we have built up with our partners in industry, science and society. Our key research areas are precision systems, technologies and materials and health and sustainability. They have developed out of Jena’s historical strength in the fields of optics, photonics and the health and life sciences. We also focus on the multidisciplinary field of digital transformation.

_

From professional life to a doctoral degree? No problem! It’s never too late to do a doctorate! At Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena – University of Applied Sciences , there is support for this in the PüDE project programme (PüDE = Promovieren über Dreißig).
And if you have ever dreamed of becoming a professor – now is the right time. The E-Professorship Project (Entwicklungs-Professur, colloquially: Simply become a professor) first removes entry barriers and improves development opportunities in the long term.
