Noble Talks: “How many and which species? Biodiversity and ecosystem functions in climate change”

The Beutenberg-Campus Jena e.V. is delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Christian Wirth to its 25th anniversary event as part of the public lecture series noble talks. Prof. Dr. Wirth is a professor at the University of Leipzig and Managing Director/Speaker of the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig. On Wednesday, November 15th 2023, he will give his keynote lecture in the lecture hall of the Abbe Center Beutenberg, Hans-Knöll Str.1 on the topic “How many and which species? Biodiversity and ecosystem functions in climate change“.

The lecture will address the question of how natural and human-induced changes in plant biodiversity affect ecosystem processes. In his lecture, he will present evidence for the role and interaction of functional biodiversity and identity at different levels and derive strategies for sustainable land use.

Guests from politics, science and universities are expected to attend the anniversary event, including the Thuringian Minister of Economics, Science and Digital Society, Wolfgang Tiefensee, and the Vice President for Digitalization at Friedrich Schiller University, Prof. Dr. Christoph Steinbeck. As part of this event, a new science prize for life sciences and physics from the Beutenberg Campus Jena will be awarded for the first time to a successful team of scientists in the category “Excellent interdisciplinary cooperation”. The ceremony will be accompanied by music from the vocal ensemble “Octavians”.

“Science & Society” lecture: Drug cocktails – the new fuel in old age?

On September 28, 2023, a lecture by Prof. Julia Stingl, MD, pharmacologist at the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen University, will take place in the lecture hall of the Abbe Center Beutenberg as part of the public lecture series “Science & Society”. The lecture is part of the initiative “Wissen für alle” and takes place in german language.

The lecture on the topic “Drug cocktails – the new fuel in old age? Effects and side effects of multimedication in old age“deals with the effects and side effects of multimedication in old age. The event, organized by the Leibniz-Institut für Alternsforschung and the Beutenberg-Campus Jena e.V., invites all interested parties to learn more about research on drug effects and tolerability in the context of polypharmacy.
